Every quote comes from the property’s own website or from its chain’s FAQ, with the URL and the date stored in our data (24 August 2026). A refusal published in writing is a fact you can plan around; the 27 that say nothing are not on this list, and they are not a no.

What the ones that accept pets actually charge

Accepting pets is not a yes or a no — it is a weight limit, a supplement and a list of excluded breeds — and only 2 of the 4 publish those details. Felipe II accepts dogs up to 10 kg for 7 €/day, which is the most precise policy in town. The apartment complex takes the first pet free when you book on its own site and excludes dogs classified as potentially dangerous under Spanish law.

The other two are thinner sources and we say so rather than dressing them up. One is a campsite whose website links its own document titled Política de admisión de animales — so animals are certainly accepted — but the file is a scanned PDF with no extractable text, so we can report that a policy exists and not what it says. The other is a guesthouse in the old town that calls itself pet friendly in the Instagram biography its website displays: the establishment speaking about itself, but not a conditions page, with no supplement and no size limit stated.

None of them is a four-star, and what that does not prove

A pattern worth naming and then handling carefully. Not one of the 4 properties that publish acceptance is a four-star hotel — the offer that takes animals is in the smaller and more flexible formats. But that does not mean the four-stars refuse: of the 15 four-star hotels we track, 5 refuse in writing and for 10 nothing is stated either way.

This distinction is the whole point of the page, and we got it wrong before getting it right: until 23 August 2026 this site claimed that no four-star in Peñíscola accepted pets, on the strength of an internal field with no source behind it. That sentence was removed, the websites were read one by one, and what replaced it is what the evidence supports. If the hotel you want is in the silent group, ring them — a website that says nothing has not said no.

The publisher’s own hotel does not accept pets either

This site is published by the company that owns the Gran Hotel Peñíscola, which we state on every page that touches it. So it is worth being explicit here: the Gran Hotel does not accept pets, and it is one of the 6 that say so in writing. Its website devotes a whole page to the question, explaining that the service existed and was withdrawn — from 2018, definitively, in its own words.

What that page does next is worth more than the refusal, and it is the reason we mention it at all: instead of leaving you with a no, it names the alternative — a local boarding kennel, which according to the hotel’s own site collects and returns the animal from the hotel, and a veterinary clinic — and points you to the municipal by-law on keeping animals. Refusing a service and solving the problem is better treatment than silence, which is what most of the town offers. And you will not find a booking banner for that hotel on this page: recommending a property that does not take dogs to someone travelling with one is not a recommendation.

What no website tells you, and you should ask

Three things are missing from almost every policy we read, and they are exactly the ones that cause trouble at reception. Whether the animal can be left alone in the room — many policies forbid it outright. Which areas are off limits: the dining room and the pool deck are the usual exclusions, and in a hotel with half board that changes your day. And whether the supplement is per night or per stay, which for a week is a different number entirely.

One more, specific to this town: the beaches.
