Where they are and how the duty rota works — with the one thing this page deliberately does not publish, and why.
Two things surprise visitors. The first: in Spain a pharmacy is identified by the name of its owning pharmacist, not by a chain or a brand, so you will not find «Pharmacy Papa Luna» on a sign. The second: outside opening hours there is always one on duty, by a rota that changes every day.
This page does not publish today’s duty pharmacy, and that is deliberate. The rota changes daily: a static page that printed it would be wrong almost every day, and here the cost of being wrong is somebody turning up at night, prescription in hand, at the wrong door. We link the official source instead, which is the only thing that can be current.

How the duty rota works
Outside normal hours, one pharmacy in the area is always open — that is the farmacia de guardia. Which one changes every day, and it is set by the College of Pharmacists rather than by the town. In a small town the duty pharmacy may be in a neighbouring municipality, so check before setting off.
The two official sources that are kept current are the Castellón College of Pharmacists, which publishes the duty rota and the full list, and the town council, which republishes it. Both are linked from the Spanish page. In an emergency, the European emergency number is 112.
Where they are relative to your hotel
One is on Avenida Papa Luna, which is where most of the hotels are: for a beachfront stay that is the near one. Another is by the port, at the level of the old town, which is the one to remember if you are sleeping inside the walls. The other two serve the residential side: the Peñismar urbanisation to the north and the town centre.
Nothing in Peñíscola is far, but the old town is a climb on cobbles: if you are staying inside the walls and need a pharmacy at night, the walk down and back up is real. That is a reason to check the duty rota before you go rather than after.
If you are staying on the seafront
The Gran Hotel Peñíscola is at number 132 of Avenida Papa Luna, the same avenue as one of the four pharmacies, and its reception is staffed 24 hours — which in practice is the fastest way to find out which pharmacy is on duty tonight without looking it up yourself.
